You Don't Need a Green Thumb for These Indoor Plants!

Do you have a green thumb? Well good for you. Keeping outdoor plants alive never seemed to be an issue for me but I could not, for the life of me, keep an indoor plant alive. Honestly, I’m just a terrible plant mom. I constantly forget to water them or accidentally water them too much. Finally I discovered one of many beautiful low maintenance plants that has put up with my neglect. Thank goodness because not only do plants look amazing in a home but there are a ton of health benefits, too.

Improve Air Quality

So everyone knows that plants purify the air, but to what extent? NASA research found that live plants remove up to 87% of volatile organic compounds (such as formaldehyde, benzene, and mold) from the air. They’re also helpful when it comes to humidifying a room. Plants release about 97% of the water that they absorb. This not only helps with respiratory problems but also helps keep your skin moisturized.

Snake Plant- Purifies air, removes nitrogen oxide and formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is found in mattresses, bedding, furniture fabric, and most of the clothes you buy.

Improve Cognitive Performance

Can you get smarter by just adding greenery to your work space? Not exactly, but by reducing impurities in the air living plants improve your creativity, memory, and ability to focus. The Royal College of Agriculture in Circencester, England revealed that students taught in a room containing plants had 70% better attentiveness than their foliage lacking peers.

Ivy- Removes benzene from the air. Benzene is used to make plastics, resins, synthetic fibers, and paint.

Reduce Stress

There’s something so harmonious and calming about plants. I always say earthy greens and browns are neutrals; just one of those colors that can be placed anywhere. A study from Kansas State University compared surgical patients with and without plants in their rooms. They found that the patients with the live plants healed sooner, had lower blood pressure, and requested less pain medication.

Pilea Peperomioides- Also known as a ‘Chinese Money Plant’. Feng Shui experts say this plant helps avoid arguments and improves sleep.
